Irish Brigade Cross General Lee and Santa Claus This book was published just two years after the Civil War ended. The story centers around three young girls who had not been visited by Santa Claus for four Christmas Eves. They write to General Lee to find out if Santa Claus really loved the rebel children. General Lee writes back to reassure the children that Santa Claus did indeed love the children of the South and he went on to explain that he had asked Santa to exchange their toys for medicine for the soldiers, knowing that the children would understand and approve. The proceeds from the sale of the book went to Southern orphans. The book is available in two versions, the original by Louise Clack which is written in the classical style of the period, and a revised edition by Randall Bedwell which is in modern language. $9.95 each General Lee and Santa Claus by Louise Clack - original General Lee and Santa Claus - an adaptation by Randall Bedwell Christmas in the South: Yuletides not Forgotten - by Randall Bedwell This little book has some fascinating facts about Christmas in Dixie. For example, did you know that the composer of "Jingle Bells," James L. Pierpont, served with a Confederate cavalry regiment during the Civil War? The book also contains a recipe for George Washington's eggnog which could make anyone feel jolly. $9.95 Christmas in the South: Yuletides not Forgotten |
